SAOA Working Groups

Members of SAOA are encouraged to get involved by joining one of SAOA's Working Groups. These three standing groups report to the Executive Board and collaborate closely with one another and the Program Coordinator.

Content Curation Working Group

This group solicits ideas for new SAOA content from scholars and librarians, conducts research on available holdings, and selects and prioritizes materials for Executive Board consideration. Responsibilities include:

  • Consulting with digital projects and archives for potential content
  • Selecting titles for inclusion and assessing copyright status
  • Working with other SAOA groups to support the digital resource mission

Funding Working Group

This group advises the Executive Board on financial matters, including:

  • Fundraising from external sources
  • Developing financial plans and cash flow projections
  • Recruiting new institutional members

Infrastructure Working Group

This group supports the technology backbone of SAOA. Focus areas include:

  • Administration, staffing, and partnerships
  • Site improvements and operational standards
  • Digitization and metadata practices
  • Preservation and long-term storage
  • Project-based tasks like QA and ingest handling
  • Adapting to emerging technology needs (e.g., images, datasets, archives)

Outreach Working Group

This group promotes SAOA and helps shape its public presence. Activities include:

  • User engagement and community building
  • Developing sustainable outreach strategies
  • Creating content and workflows for social media
  • Diversifying the SAOA user base
