Content Curation Working Group

A standing body of the South Asia Open Archives, reporting to the SAOA Executive Board and collaborating closely with the Program Coordinator and other Working Groups.

  • Sohaib Baig, University of California, Los Angeles
  • Deepa Banerjee, University of Washington
  • Brent Bianchi, Yale University
  • David Magier, Princeton University
  • Jeffrey Martin, University of Michigan
  • James Nye, University of Chicago
  • Gautham Reddy, Emory University

Purpose

The Working Group solicits ideas for new SAOA content from scholars and librarians, researches available holdings, and selects and prioritizes materials for Executive Board consideration. These include:

  • Consulting with other digital projects and archives for content
  • Selecting titles for inclusion
  • Addressing copyright clearance for titles

Rationale

This Working Group shapes SAOA’s collections. Its selection work is informed by:

  1. An evolving set of Selection Guidelines (with thematic and resource-type focus areas)
  2. Selection Principles (collection development guidelines)

These documents guide thematic focus and support informed decisions in building SAOA’s collections.

Membership

The group includes three or more members from SAOA institutions, appointed by the Executive Board. One member must be from the Board and will Chair or Co-Chair the group. The SAOA Project Coordinator also participates.

No fixed term is required, but a minimum of two years is encouraged to ensure continuity.

Tasks, Timelines, and Deliverables

Typically assigned by the Executive Board, but the group may also propose initiatives that align with SAOA's mission.

Reporting

Reports are submitted monthly to the Executive Board (or more frequently if requested). The Board communicates group recommendations to the SAOA membership.
